This is hard

No. 1 and No. 2 here.

This is hard. We are so very sorry to have to tell you this, dear friends on the interweb. It is with a heavy heart that we must let you know that we have said a tearful farewell to our beloved Willie.

He had had it hard of late, but did not complain. He was a brave dog and he stayed with us as long as he could, which is all we ever asked of him from the time he was a puppy. That little dog lived a large life, but in the end his struggles had become more than anybody or any dog should have to endure. He enriched our lives for nearly 17 years and never said a cross word. We loved him more than words can say. The ways in which he touched our lives cannot be counted. Before we got him as a four-month-old, we liked dogs. He turned us into total dog people.

To you, who have been Willie’s fans and who have read his stories over the years, we want to send a huge (!) huge (!!) THANK YOU for sharing Willie’s journey. He enjoyed hearing from you so much.

************

Now I have come to the end of the happy days,
And I am blessed that they were so many.
And now I have come to the end of the sad days,
And I am blessed that they were so few.
I will leave an empty place in your heart,
But that place will be filled with love,
And when all the empty places in the world have been filled,
Then we will be together again.

For fifteen years we’ve had a message on our answering machine that goes like this: “If you’d like to leave a message for Kay or Dana, please start talking at the tone. If you want to leave a message for Willie, please start barking at the tone.” You’d be surprised how many people bark! It always makes us smile.

We will leave Willie’s stories here on the interweb for other dogs and their humans to discover. And if you want to leave a message for Willie…

A fond farewell,
All the Mackenzies

Oh dear. I feel like I have lost a dear friend. I have been following Willie’s adventures for about 18 months and it was only recently that I realised he was such an old boy. He has been an absolute darling!
It’s hard isn’t it when you love them so much?
Love to you both.

Dear Kay and Dana, I am so sorry for your loss. I am sitting here crying, as I had a feeling this was coming this week. I do understand all that you are going through. I lost my Callie after 16 years (she was 18) and she was my world. When she went to pet heaven her sisters (Klingons) Lacey and Stormy were there waiting for her. I hope you can have a little smile knowing that my girls are in pet heaven running around showing Willie how it all works and making him feel very welcome in his new home. I have enjoyed all the stories and will miss them. I have a feeling there will never be a shortage of Klingon stories that may be coming from your home. Willie was just as blessed to have you both love him so much. Thanks for the wonderful ride. God Bless you both. Tina

My sincerest sympathy to you both. Willie was amazing and his blogs about the klingons encouraged me to adopt a second klingon in Aug after my husband of 45 years passed after. His storytellings cheered me on days that I was feeling low. We share your sorrow. Blessings to you both. Ellen P

I am so, so sorry to read about your loss. I can’t believe that you have lost all your cats, and now Willie. I will pray for you to heal. I have always been so delighted to find Willie’s postings, and I know we will all miss him along with you. Michele

I am so, so sorry to read the sad news of Willie’s passing. I have enjoyed reading “his” posts and when I would see a new one in my blog reader I would smile and look forward to reading Willie’s musings on life. I know how hard this is and how much he will be missed. I can tell how much love you gave to him. May the wonderful memories of his love for you bring you some peace. These little furry souls bring such joy and I am glad you had him for 16 wonderful years. Hugs, Denise

Oh Willie how you will be missed! My brother, Shadow, (german shepherd) passed away a year and a half ago, so he can play with you now in heaven! Shadow was my best friend. I’m so sorry for your sadness but know that Willie is in a better place where there is only love and peace. ~Reeses :(
